Brice was featured in Time Magazine, his first recognition by a national publication, in an article reviewing his exhibition at The Alan Gallery, New York City.
Brice traveled with close friends to Mexico, visiting Aztec ruins and calling on Rufino Tamayo. The prominent Mexican artist had met Brice earlier on a visit to Los Angeles, triggered by the fact that Fanny owned and bequeathed to William a large Tamayo painting. The strong shapes and forms of both the ancient architecture and 20th century Mexican murals made a strong impression on Brice.
