Brice traveled with close friends to Mexico, visiting Aztec ruins and calling on Rufino Tamayo. The prominent Mexican artist had met Brice earlier on a visit to Los Angeles, triggered by the fact that Fanny owned and bequeathed to William a large Tamayo painting. The strong shapes and forms of both the ancient architecture and 20th century Mexican murals made a strong impression on Brice.
